Baguio City- Tongtongan Ti Umili will be staging a cultural activity entitled “Jam Against the Pork Scam” on June 12 from 9:30am to 12 noon to celebrate our country’s Independence Day. Groups and individuals coming from various sectors in Baguio City will join together to commemorate our country’s independence through different forms of cultural presentations.

While we are commemorating the heroism and courage of our heroes and forefathers who fought for the freedom of our country and our people from colonizers, we should always re-evaluate and study our country’s current situation where people still experience poverty and millions of people resort to look for jobs overseas.

“We need to assess our country’s freedom—if we are still free at all, given the fact that the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) has clearly given our country’s sovereignty to the United States with whole open arms. Our forefathers died for our country’s independence while the Aquino government gave this away easily” stated Tracy Dumalo, secretary-general of Tongtongan Ti Umili.

TTU will also be continuing the campaign against the pork barrel system on the said date, calling for the imprisonment of the corrupt politicians and the resignation of Budget Secretary Butch Abad and ProcesoAlcalawho are involved in the pork barrel scam. President Benigno Aquino III is also equally accountable for the system of corruption in the country. TTU continues to campaign for the abolition of the presidential pork barrel, the Disbursement Acceleration Program.

“We are calling on all our fellow Filipinos to continue our call to abolish the whole pork barrel system, make the corrupt politicians answerable for their deeds and remain vigilant in monitoring how our local politicians use our city’s funds. We must enliven our spirit of independence where we fight for what is right and what is just for our country and its citizens” ended Dumalo.
